Graffiti at its best: Wynwood, Miami

The Miami Design District: Cool travellers with a nerve and a desire to see the world are venturing into once-forbidden neighborhoods of Miami. Formerly best avoided, the Design District and Wynwood have been enjoying a renaissance in recent years.

Its hard to imagine how the doors, walls, windows and shutters were before they were converted into some of the world’s most magnificient art form.

This place generates immense tourist traffic. There are hundreds of businesses, more than 70 art galleries, museums, and art curators. People fly from all over the world to admire, study and create here.

Wynwood is Miami's hottest art neighborhood and also home to an impressive food and shopping scene, featuring a plethora of gritty bars, art-enhanced restaurants, funky design shops and cafeterias.

Even if you have been there, this place doesn’t fail to surprise you with newer graffiti every time because there is so much talent in the world, so many artists ready to display and work and only so much space.

Some of the must visit places next time you are there are:

R House Wynwood: A funky dining space and art gallery serving contemporary American cuisine with a global twist, alongside in house crafty cocktails.

Style Mafia: This contemporary boutique created by blogger Simonett Pereira showcases edgy street-inspired womenswear and accessories geared towards frugal fashionistas.

Gramps: Local hipsters love this offbeat bar with plenty of brew specials, a dark, gritty interior equipped with DJs and a large outdoor patio that features mismatched furniture and classic movie screenings.

SuViche: Of the three outposts in Miami, the Wynwood location of the Peruvian chain is the coolest.

Panther Coffee: The strong aroma and art-splashed walls of this funky coffeehouse make a strong first impression and they keep your taste buds enthralled.
